Hi Kate, Sounds like time to a teacher conference too, and maybe a request for a CSE to create an IEP that will give her parameters for dealing with him appropriately. I find it baffling that the kids who need the activity most are usually punished by forced inactivity - why not 10 laps instead?
I recall a mom on another list who would each year donate 3-5 pieces of equipment to the classroom, like balance seats, etc (and moved them up with her child) so her chld wasn't singled out, but had the benefit.
Have him checked for sensory integration issues too- some kids need to move in order (even wiggling can help)to be able to focus, (even if it makes the teacher nuts.)
Good luck

Hello group!! Times have been really busy since school began..REALLY busy! But now we are settling down into a routine of sorts I hope! I would love to hear others' experiences so far with school..if you are dealing with preschool or school. Here's mine: I ahve a beautiful 5 year ols boy who has been diagnosed ADHD...emphasis on the H!! I was really hoping and praying to assist those symptoms while he is in kindergarten through diet, patience, understanding and maintaining a good activity level altho in school most of the day. His teacher is not going to "allow" that I am sad to say. She is on his back every move he makes. At this rate he will NEVER get to participlate in"Fun Friday" because he stayed on green all week. ARGH!!!! and I am a second grade teacher myself so this is SOOOOO frustrating. Appointment on Monday with ped. (sniff sniff)

Well after torturing herself and me for a month with anxiety about starting kindergarten, my dd skipped happily onto the bus without a backward glance. Today is her first full day ( last week they did half days to ease them into it) with gym! No calls so far, life is good.

i am 55 and husband is 57, we adopted Joseph and Natalie from Guat, they are now 3 years old, 12 days apart. Can't imagine not having them. we have 10 bio children ages 12 to 33. and adopted 3 sisters through the foster care system. They haven't done well, but maybe as time goes on they will start making better decisions. they are 21, 22, & 25. Will keep checking in now that I signed up.

I took my 5 year old to meet the teacher night and he freaked:-( He walked into the room and froze, then hid behind me....not necesssarily odd for most but it is for him! Then he began to dart around touching things...again, not unusual for a 5 yr old...but not like him! Then when the teacher began to talk he ....put his fingers in his ears...By this time I was teary with concern! So we went back today and practiced how to walk into the room, go to his seat, and find his things. I hope he will be happy and cooperative and sweet on Tues when we begin!!!

No we don't start until next Wed, but we've had the bus orientation and a playdate with some other new kindergarteners (only 3 from her class) so she is feeling better about it. Also having one of her friends try and act know it all about it seems to have given her some backbone. I did send in a letter to the teacher saying if she wasn't doing well they needed to call me ASAP, since I didn't wasn't to deal with a re-traumatized child. Hoping for the best.
