For TPR for our son, the court gave his first mom more time the first time, the second time she didn't show up so it was postponed and the third time she came and agreed to TPR. Each time, the actual time in the court room only lasted a few minutes. The recommendation is decided upon ahead of time. If the dad shows up, his appointed lawyer will ask him if he wants to fight TPR. If he does, the judge will consider that and make a decision. I hope all goes well for all of you. Julie

Comment by Heather Roberts on January 12, 2012 at 8:27pm: We have had our placement for two months a 3 year old little girl and 2 year old boy/girl twins. We have TPR trial in a week for dad (mom has already relinquished). I have only ever met the caseworker. I have no clue what to expect for trial. It is scheduled from 9am-5pm and is 2 hours away. It is going to be a very long exhausting day. Anyone that has been there and done that with words of advice. What will court look like, what will happen?

I don't have any advice specific to adjustment from moving, but I did find some of the exercises in Peter Levine's book _Trama-Proofing Your Kids_ to be very effective in terms of helping our foster-adopt daughter heal from the trauma of her past.

Comment by Boyce & Cindy on September 22, 2011 at 7:31pm: Heidi I agree with Margaret- time. the move most likely brought up all kinds of emotions and uncertainty about permanency, No matter how much you tell them they just don't get that they are yours forever. Keep a routine they will cling to that. There are some great websites and books out there about attachment. Every time we go on a vacation our kids flip out and we have had them for 3 years now. They were 1 and 3 when we got them. It is just something in their brains that they don't understand.

Comment by Heidi Kellis Johnson on September 12, 2011 at 10:54am: We took placement of two sisters from foster care (3&5) in July 2010 and adopted them in June 2011. Three weeks later we packed up and moved over 400 miles from our home. The adjustment has been difficult for all of us and has exasperated the girls attachment issues. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appriciated.
