Just wanted to quickly write and say, December 3rd we received a referral for a 28 month Baby girl from China. We were logged in Feb. 9th 2007. We recently switched to special needs. We do not know when we be travelling, it may be 2-4 months give or take! Can't wait to hold our baby girl!!!!

Stick with it Penny. We had a rough experience ourselves. We decided to go international through a Guatemala program. We identified our son at 1 month old and did not get to bring him home until 16 months. It was a long process filled with ridiculous requests and arbitrary decisions. Basically from the time we turned in our paperwork it was out of our control. It was frustrating for us as well but I am very happy with our decision. Hang in there once everything is done the wait will be a distant memory and you will be trying to figure out how to bring home your next child.

Hi Penny,
Be glad you're not waiting for non-special needs from China - 4-5 + years now. We had an 18 month wait to bring home our second daughter (after we had her file) due to unforseen circumstances, and it was miserable, so I understand where you are coming from. But - Domestic can be a crap shoot with no firm dates either - either you go private and play the dating game with birth mothers or you take the required classes and foster to adopt, which can take years also. More people are going into special needs in order to speed things up - which may not always be a good decision if you are not really prepared for it (our second dd is special needs and that was a choice we made from the beginning of the process.)
There will always be people who "do" more. In my original big DTC China adoption group, there are people who have subsequently adopted multiple children from disruptions, Ethiopia, Kaz, Vietnam before it closed, Taiwan, domestic. One family adopted 5 kids in the time we adopted 2.
You did your research before you signed up with an agency - those reasons are still valid.

HI all. My husband and I have been waiting for our referral from the Philippines, for 8 months now. We were told it could be 18 months before a referral....but it seems that several of our peers who have gone the domestic route with adoption have already had children placed with them. I am starting to second guess our decision to go international, and wonder if anyone has any words of wisdom for us? Maybe I'm just getting antsy, watching other families grow and not ours. I know that is part of it. But the waiting.....it is SO LONG! Can anyone share any success stories that they have... just to help me through? I think I need a ray of light here. Thanks:/
