As we celebrate our son's second "Gotcha" day (The day we celebrate is the day we finally got to HOLD him!), I ponder what I can do to convince more families to adopt. It seems that only the horror stories of RAD/ADHD/FAS and other disorders are talked about. For a while we thought we were the only ones to adopt a normally adjusted child out of Eastern Europe. My family and I were watching TV yesterday and were shocked at the promo for the movie "Orphan" coming out about an adopted girl that haunts her family and those around her. Today I was happy to find there is a formal response from the Christian adoption community. Please stop by the "Orphans Deserve Better" and sign the petition to Warner Bros. to donate proceeds from this movie to orphan care and to promote better images of these children in future movies.… Continue

When we talk about our adoption with others it is hard to not get pleading with others to also consider adoption, especially of older or special needs kids. Both of my children pray for their friends every night that God would send families for them. Our newest daughter, adopted at 15 constantly asks if we know anyone for her friends. I have seen on some of the recent blog posts and forums that referring to your child as "adopted" is offensive and some how shows you value your child differently from the "homegrown" version. I must admit that I am guilty of using the term "adopted child" when talking about one of my adopted kids. I guess it reflects the fact that adoption is purposeful. Just go to "my page" and go to the far right column under your name. The last link is "settings", click there. When your information pops up, change it to what you want SHOWN on your profile (your email is never shown) and click "Save".
