Share a little about your adoption story

We started our foster care training in March of 2011 by June we were approved as foster parents but went straight into the adoption search. We went onto http://adoptuskids.org/ to find our daughter. She was 14 1/2 when she came for her first visit one week before Christmas. It was a wonderful weekend visit. We decided she would be a great addition to our family. She came back the end of December 2011. The Interstate approval came the first week of January and she was officially placed with our family. We had bumps in the road the first few months but nothing out of the normal. Her adjusting to our rules and all of us adusting to the "teenage girl drama" that comes with all normal teenage girls. June of that year we took our son and soon to be daughter to meet our second to the oldest son. We brought our sixteen year old son and my oldest son, wife and grandson flew to Hawaii too. Kara spent her 15th birthday in Hawaii. It was positively wonderful for the whole family and she really got to bond with my entire family during her very first family vacation. By July we went to see the attorney and filled out all the paperwork. Then our adoption agency completed their part and everything was sent into the courts. By August 8th she was all ours.

I was a foster child and I was adopted by my biological mothers hus band. I met my real father when I was 23. Once I was placed into foster placement at 16 I think that is when the good lord put it in my heart to adopt and give back. I had wonderful foster parents. When I didn' t have a daughter of my own I really felt the need to adopt. This has been the most rewarding experience of my life and even though she is not biologically related to me she is very much "my little girl", We love her just as much as we love the other children. But the best part of it all is "she chose us right back".
