My husband and I were married in 2001, as my older sister and her husband were hoping to adopt from China. A few months later, when we were told we should not attempt to get pregnant because my body would not physically handle pregnancy well, we were devastated. Watching my sister and her husband go through the adoption process and find their sweet baby girl was inspiring and hopeful for us and we didn't even have to think twice about what our next step would be. As soon as we had all our ducks in a row to do so, we began our adoption journey in hopes of building our own forever family. During this time my husband's sister and her husband also adopted a child.

Our son CJ was our first amazing adoption miracle born July 28, 2006. We picked him up from the hospital on July 30, 2006 and all the years of waiting and hoping seemed to melt away. His birth mother is in our daily prayers and we are grateful to have an open adoption so that Carter can have a relationship with his two older biological siblings. Carter's middle name is after his angel birth mother. We want him to always know how loved he is and that we love and honor her.

We began looking for another miracle in October 2007. We were chosen in December 2008 by a sweet prospective birth mother, but she changed her mind and decided to parent before her little boy was born this year. She and her son are also in our prayers each day and we sincerely hope the best for them.

On August 6, 2009, we got a phone call on the toll-free line we set up in connection with our adoption efforts. The woman on the phone said her daughter's friend was in the hospital in labor and she asked if it would be okay to text her our number. I told her yes and asked how she had found us. It turns out her daughter found our profile on Parent Profiles. To make a long story short, the young woman in labor called us ten minutes later, had a baby girl a few hours later, and we were on a flight to Michigan at 6:00 the next morning. Two weeks later, we brought our precious Ruby Jane home and are feeling incredibly blessed! We know she was meant for our family -- there were literally hundreds of miracles that occurred in order for her to come to our family and I know it was no accident or coincidence!

We hope to stay actively engaged in spreading the good news of adoption and hope we might be blessed to continue to grow our family!

Is it a broken system?

Last week I stumbled across a "waiting" sibling group of two adorable brothers (age one and three) on an online photolisting. I was drawn in as I saw their picture and after talking to hubby about it and getting a very positive response from him, I sent in an inquiry via the contact form on the state website where we had found the boys' profile. I would normally just have waited at that point to see if I heard back from the boys' caseworker. However, the website said they would only be accepting… Continue
