Grandparents and adoption

Being adopted sure ain't always easy. I could write a few dozen - maybe hundred - blog posts on that topic. But one thing is for sure when it comes to our son. He is blessed with a lot of grandparents who love him, and that, is an easy thing to love. This weekend his Grandma Mary and Grandpa Burt are visiting from Minnesota. It's been awhile since they have seen Adam, yet despite Adam having a much bigger vocabulary, more inches and definitely more skills, they picked up where they left off, as…See More

My dad - it's time to share the story - and my children's dad, his, too

I've never blogged about this to the world before, so let's see if I can get through this without flooding my keyboard. My dad is not my "birthfather"/"biological father"/"sperm dad" (ha, I love that one). I can't stand it, though, when for whatever rare reason it comes up, someone says, "oh, he's not your real dad?" Insta-stomach turn. I mean, I get what they mean. But it's just a strange thing to hear. Of all the words. He is my real dad. He's as real as it gets.Jon Erickson entered my life at…See More

Share a little about your adoption story
Hi from horse country, where we moved to in '08 from Mickey Mouseland. We initially started blogging during the Great Wait to adopt our daughter from Jiangxi, China. During that time we had the blessed unexpected adoption of our then 5-year-old son from the U.S. (see our very zany timeline below). Oh yeah, and before the double adoption craziness we adopted a schnoodle. And then another, her sister. And last, but definitely not least, Steve's two grown children, both married - one just this month! And a new fish! Life is good. "Doyle Mania" it is.
