I'm guessing that you would have to go through the proper Foster Parent Training classes that my husband and I (and all foster or adoptive parents have to take) and have the proper home inspections, background checks and fingerprints, etc. to become…

A group for Adoptive and Birthmoms. Placing a child is the single most difficult thing most birthmoms have or will ever do. As adoptive moms, lets remind ourselves of the selflessness of our children's birth families and support them.

We've had our (adopted) children, Jeffery (now 10) and Jaycie (now 4) for 17 months now, having just finalized in April of this year. I distinctly recall that one of the earliest comments by my son about his birth mom were about his last 4th of July…

Thank you, Mary Beth, and all who chimed in, sharing my deep emotion and broken heart (but hopeful heart!) for my new children. Both children, ironically, have been talking more and more about their birth families, a topic that we welcome, and "enco…

I don't know if you see it this way Becky but what you posted was very compassionate. The roller coaster of emotions can be challenging to say the least and we move forward the best way we can. Your children are fortunate to have you as an understan…

Well, I posted a blog about this and got responses. Some people don't understand. See my blogs on this site or on fourgardnersandme.blogspot.com. (Comments mostly on this site, however.) Some people don't like the idea of having a scarlet A adoptio…

Michelle, I was visiting with my neighbor down the street this weekend, since my (new) kids go over to her yard frequently, particularly to see her new baby. :)) Jaycie (now 4) understands that she was in (her birth mother's) tummy (and we call her…

Thankfully there are adoptive parents that recognize this loss factor and there ares more children's books that address these things. I have invited some birthparents to join this group in hopes of ideas from that view point on how to include this i…

Thank you for sharing about the loss involved for your children and their birth family, despite the true necessity of the adoption. It is so encouraging when I hear this from an adoptive parent -- not that the loss is what should always be focused o…

I have not been surprised that many have said the reciept of the birth certificates evokes alot of emotion. I have heard a range of feelings such as birth certificated on display for both old and new and then other parents that just view them as the…

Of course, you'll have to tell your son. "Honey, your mother probably has your original birth certificate, along with your sister's." But, you know, as part of the adoption, the government creates a new one for you with your new name on it -- our fa…

We had a blended family with seven children already (his, mine, ours) with only the youngest two ("ours") still at home. We were surprised with the news of my young cousin (age 9) and his 2-yr-old half sister who needed to be adopted after their grandmother's passing (birth mom on drugs, terminated rights). We are SO blessed with "God's sweet surprise", as I call them! Ironically, I am a singer/songwriter whose music & ministry focuses on adoption & foster parenting! (This was BEFORE we ever knew we'd be adopting!) I travel the USA performing & speaking for adoption events, which is closer to my heart than EVER!

New Adoption Video (To raise awareness, recruit more families) by Becky Wright

Check out the brand new video, "Thank You for Giving Me a Chance". Already being utilized by adoption and foster parenting organizations nationwide, this video is a rousing and hopeful portrayal of the need for, and blessings of, being a foster parent, or an adoptive parent of kids who are considered "hard to place". May God provide a home for every child!! Here's the link here on Adoption Voices:

Is Adopting an Older Child a RISK?

Jeffery turned 10 on Monday, just two days shy of our first six months together as an "adoptive family". We were already a "blended family" with seven children, the oldest five grown and out of the house, and only our two "babies" (which we thought would be our last!) left at home. This adoption of 9-year-old Jeffery and 2-year-old baby (half) sister Jaycie came as a surprise... but since Jeffery is my cousin, we knew we couldn't let them go to strangers, nor separate them. So we f… Continue

We spoke to the social worker in our area today and she answered our questions and concerns. She said that she is excited for us and that she is looking forward to Spring 2011 when we will begin the process! :) She told us how to prepare and I will begin parenting classes as soon as I find some because I am not a parent. I have taken Life span psychology in college but I want to take parenting classes. My church offers parenting classes too! :)

Arleta James has a book out re the typically developing siblings. Don't lose the healthy ones in trying to help the needy ones.
Make sure he understands his new brothers issues are not his fault. That it is ot his responsibility to "fix" his brother. Telll him it is OK to be sad. After all he has given up a lot to welcome a new brother. Make some time for him and you and him and his dad alone. If you are parenting them diferenlty ((and you should be) make sure he knows why and that it is because of his brother's issues. Each child needs to be parented the way they need to be.
Are you getting family therapy?
