Just support her. That is all you can do, and she will appreciate that more than anything! Give her love, and time to figure out what to do.

I am the birth mother of a daughter who fulfilled a family’s dream when I was in her early 20’s. Two years later, I was able to help a second family begin when I placed my twin sons with another grateful set of parents. Now in my late 30’s, I am happily married with two sons and have led a very normal, healthy and productive life.
I have been involved in my daughter’s life all along and see her from time to time. I hear about the twins in letters from the adoptive parents.

My Journey Through Motherhood as a Birth Mother

At 19 I found myself pregnant by way of tetracycoline. My dentist gave me the anitbiotic out of the office, samples, and never asked if I was on birth control. The father of the baby was a great guy, however it was apparent at the time that we were not going the distance. I went the preganacy alone and had one hell of an experience with the State of Missouri. Horrible treatment of birth mothers there! The evil woman of a social worker told me one month before I was due that I would not be placin… Continue

Advocating the Birth Mother's Voice

I have been a birth mother for 20 years. I have been living with the ups, downs and in-betweens of my journey, and it is true that time, along with a lot of self discovery, heals all wounds. However, as I look through web groups and sites I have been caught up in the posts of young girls that are new to motherhood. I too remenber those feeling of being lost and scared, the absolute joy that I felt knowing I had helped to fulfill the lives of wanting parents while feeling a grief that I still can… Continue

Kelsey,

Your book came today - I love it! :) Thank you so much for writing such a touching and positive book to help children understand how and why a birthmom makes such a hard decision. The last page says it all - I hope that one day I'll be reading it to my own child. (hopefully without crying) Thanks again!

I love the interview blog idea! I read your blog and was going to continue on to others, but I've got to make supper, and I know if I keep reading I'll be reading all night! I can't wait to read through more interviews though- thanks for sharing!

Kelsey,

I would be more than happy to do a review of your book and am impressed by what I can see, so far. I think there are so many people who have positive adoption stories, yet the negative voices outweigh the positive online, it seems. My friend and co-worker, Janelle Basham, is a birthmother as well and has started a blogging counter-part to mine. www.fls-birthmother.blogspot.com. Check it out as well.

Are you able to send a sample book to our agency for me to review on the blog and I will also incorporate it into our collection of books that we recommend to adoptive families? Let me know.

Hi Kelsey
Thanks for becoming a fan, and for the wonderful comment you posted. I self-published with Raider Publishing International. I see that you are also a self-publisher. It's a great way to get one's story out there, but generating the necessary publicity yourself is extremely hard work, I'm finding, especially when you have to juggle this with a full-time job. Fortunately, I am in the media industry and have various contacts but it's still hard work. Perhaps you can give me a few tips. I would so appreciate that. Thank you for your interest in my book. I have been asked to address a support group of adoptive parents and I will certainly suggest your book to them, to give to their children. I am so glad we found each other on AV. It's wonderful to talk to a fellow author who is also involved in adoption.
God bless
Aurette

Hi Kelsey,
Just found your page on Facebook and became a fan. I also have a page for my book - Someone's Daughter, and I would be honoured if a fellow author and birth-mother became a fan.

Hi Kelsey
Thank you so much for your kind words on my book. It is certainly one of the most difficult and scariest, yet exciting things I've ever done. What is the name of your book, as I would love to read it. Perhaps we should exchange copies :) I'll order yours and you order mine!

You're very welcome. Let me know if you'd like to do a guest post some time.

By the way, for November, I am holding a Book Tour on the somewhat difficult-to-read book, The Primal Wound. There are about 15 participants so far, and I would love to have some more from the birthparent perspective. If you could help spread the word, i would appreciate it!

Very nice to meet you!
